S. P. Co-Operative Co / Wine & Spirit Merchants / View Street / Bendigo. No potters stamp. Household Demijohn Two tone, tan top, impressed. Quart. 210 mm. 1900s
Very Good. Has four lip chips, starting at the rear left near the handle is a 13 x 9 mm chip, around to the front just to the left is an 11 x 10 mm chip, immediately next to this just to the right is an 11 x 12 mm chip, and then right around to the rear right near the handle is a 15 x 13 mm chip. Some light wear to inner lip. The front lower right has a crack verging into a hairline coming up about 80 mm or so, this is only an open crack over a short distance, and continues under the base by about 35 mm before turning and going another 30 mm. The front part where it is a glaze hairline has a cross hair going about 50 mm, this looks like a surface stain, may not even be a glaze line. The right side around some potters marks has a line travelling down 70 mm, this is a very fine glaze hairline. A few small chips under the base, these would be pottery pulls from the manufacturing process. Quite a good example of a rare little demijohn from the Sandhurst Produce Co-operative Co of Bendigo. Grade: 7 Estimate: $150 - 200
