Lot 419: William Pratt Merchant Kyabram Impressed Stoneware Demijohn

Excellent. Lovely condition with only minor marks. Minor wear to inner lip. Impressed stamp is beautifully struck. The handle has had relatively thick twine tied around it and looking at the wear this was done fairly early on. The twine does part allowing us to see the handle underneath. It does have a glaze flake from which a crack goes across the handle, and another down the edge of the handle about 25 mm, and also up the edge over about 25 mm. Dark mark to front shoulder going across appears to be a surface scratch, it may verge on a fine hairline at one end. Some crude marks such asglaze misses. Some spots of discolouration and a few scratches to the glaze to be found. A really nice country Victorian demijohn. Grade: 8.1 Estimate: $500 - 700
