King & Co. / (Crown on a cushion) / Estabd AD. 1887 / Leichhardt Brewery / Sydney. Smooth base. Beer Cork Stoppered Champagne shape. Applied double collar top. Internal Thread. Black (Very dark green). 26 oz. 300 mm with stopper. 1890s
Excellent. Oiled internally. Surface of the glass has some fine scratches and scuffs. Mid neck on the right side is a scuff around 25 mm long that is just on the surface and will clean off with a bit of work. Most of the other noticeable scratches are to the back. You can just see a spot or two of wear to the embossing when looking very closely. Given the colour, sensational embossing and the rarity this is probably the best antique beer bottle in Australia. This particular one was part of the Ted Jorgensen collection until purchased by Wayne Harris in 1979 and it has been in Wayne's collection since then. Outstanding bottle in superb condition. This is the first time one of these has been offered at public auction. Wonderful opportunity to purchase one of Australia's best bottles. We are happy to discuss payment terms with potential bidders. Checked with black light, nothing showed up in the way of lip repairs. Feeling internally there is a small part that catches on the nail, but this is only about one tenth of the inner circumference and is from making. An orange peel effect to the lip has a couple of unusual scratches, these scratches are in the glass and do not flake in any way. Superb piece, don't miss this once in a lifetime opportunity. Grade: 8.5 Estimate: $30000 - 35000
