2 x different sized pot bases: Martin & Pleasance (M&P monogram) 85 Collins Street East / Melbourne. Base Mark: Toogood / Patent / London. Pot Lid Ointment 1. All white with black print. Small. 2. All white with black print. Large. 1. 66 mm diameter. 2. 90 mm diameter.. 1890s
1. Poor. Repaired front base edge chips. One on front left is over about 46 mm, the upper part of this just enters the lower part of the printed Melbourne. One on the front right is over 18 by up to 5 mm. Some shallow flakes and repairs to the upper lip, the inner lip has repairs to the left section. Quite a bit of discolouration, some scratches and spots of glaze wear. The correct lid is in good condition, has some rust and crazing and a tiny nick or two to lower edge. 2. Very Good. HUGE pot base, this is the large number 4 size, I am pretty sure they do not come any larger than this. Small glazed over flake to front inner lip from making. Under the base is a slightly larger chip that is also glazed over from making alongside one of the Toogood lugs. There is a flake, 13 x 5 mm under the base edge to one side. Each of the Toogood lugs has a fine hairline coming up from it, one is 20 mm, the other 14 mm. The correct lid is slightly discoloured, some scratches and fine hairlines. Great, large piece in really nice condition. Grade: N/A Estimate: $150 - 200
