King & Co. / (Crown on a cushion) / Estabd AD. 1887 / Leichhardt Brewery / Sydney. Smooth base. Beer Cork Stoppered Champagne shape. Applied double collar top. Internal Thread. Black (Very dark green). 26 oz. 295 mm. 1890s
Very Good. A late entry, this is new to the market - one of he finds of the year without a doubt! The first to be found for decades! The G of King has a flake to the upper part with a shallow bruise under it, as seen in the photograph. The left side of the G also is flaked, but smoothly and very hard to actually tell at all. The rest of the embossing has minor marks at worst, a couple of tiny impact marks and some light scratches, but generally very crisp and clear. A couple of pacthes of surface rust under the base. Very hard to see through due to the dark colour, but there is some inner dirt as well. The outer surface whilst having no stain or haze, is scratched. Around the lip and down the front neck are some scuffs and scratches. These continue down the left and rear of the bottle. The rest of the bottle has the odd short scratch as well. There are a few little fisheyes and impact marks. A superb rarity, the scratches show up as this is au natural - put a fine coating of oil on it and this will look as good as the last one we featured a couple of auctions ago (which had oil on it) that had a $30,000 reserve (incidentally, it has sold privately for that price since). This is a bargain at half that price, another won't turn up for possibly another several decades! Grade: 7.5 Estimate: $20000 - 25000
