Cobalt Quilted Oil. Base Mark: Registered / (British Registration Diamond) / 30 May 1850. Goldfields Salad Oil Flared lip, ornate diamond quilted tapered cylinder with four neck rings and three body rings. 248 mm. 1850s
Very Good. The inner lip is ground, this is from making as these had a clear glass stopper. There is a small flat spot to the outer lip that is possibly a small polished out flake. The upper lip may have had a minimal amount of polishing as well, moreso in the aforementioned area where there is a slight dip to the upper lip. There are some scratches across the neck rings. A little surface mark above these. Some scratching to the body rings as well. Little impact mark to body on seam line, another one or two to be found. Some small scattered scratches and scuff marks. The embossing under the base has some minor usage wear, this is due to the fact that this is the part that would contact the surface when the bottle is standing up. A few marks under the base may be remnants of a pontil. One tiny base edge nick. One of the S's underneath is reversed. Atrributed to Kilner of Kilner Bros glassworks fame. This is one of the most sought after salad oils available due to its sheer beauty, this is a great example. Grade: N/A Estimate: $2000 - 2500
