Colourful Toby Jug in the shape of a Jolly Man. Potters Stamp: Melrose / Australian / Ware. Pottery Australian Ornate and colourful Toby Jug made by Melrose Australian Pottery in Brunswick. 175 mm. 1930s
Mint. An absolutely stunning piece of rare Australian pottery. The Melrose Pottery was part of the Hoffman Brick Company in Brunswick. The pottery closed in the early 1940s. Most of the wares were single coloured, often green. This Toby jug in the form of a jolly man is very rare, and exhibits the rare multi-coloured glaze in some lovely tones. This has the standard crazing. The outer pouring lip and right side rim has a little bit of roughness, this appears to be from making. Little glaze miss to his left hand pocket. Tiny split towards the rear of his right foot. A superb piece. Grade: 9.8 Estimate: $400 - 500
