TAMARINDS. No makers mark. Medicine Chemist Superb apothecary specie jar for Tamarinds. Porcelain with mauve and yellow on white. Gold decorations throughout. 228 mm without lid. 1840s
Near Mint. A very signifcant piece of pharmacy history, along with leeches jars, these are highly sought after. The inner rear lip below the lid has a small flake. Crazing throughout. A few dark streaks in the glaze to the rear are simply heavier streaks of glaze. A few spots of discolouration under the base. Some minor wear to some of the gold decoration. One or two discoloured spots to the body. Tamarind was an estringent fruit which acted as a mild laxative. Superb piece, in amazing condition considering that these are early pieces. Not sure on exactly how early, 1830s have been mentioned in places, I suggested a little later? Grade: 9.1 Estimate: $2500 - 3000
