Goldfields salad oil. Applied string rim to lip, four neck rings over eight sided neck which flares out to a bulbous upper body. 8 petalled ribs on the tapered body over pedestal type base. British Registration Diamond under base (This glass design (Parcel No.5) was registered on the 12th of January 1849 by: J.Wingrave & Co., London.) Goldfields Salad Oil Applied string rim to lip, four neck rings over eight sided neck which flares out to a bulbous upper body. 8 petalled ribs on the tapered body over pedestal type base. Aqua. 7 oz. 224 mm. 1840s

Very Good. Small chip has been professionally polished out of the lip. This has been cleaned professionally by acid dipping, which has left a shiny surface throughout and great detail. This is thought of as a better process to polish bottles by some as the detail remains. There are some fine orange peel effect marks in areas which would be the remains of where the bottle was etched to begin with. Burst bubble under the base. Weird inclusion near the base looks like a spot of dense tiny bubbles with some larger bubbles emanating from it. An amazing rarity, this beautiful piece is the first example we have seen. Registered to J Wingrave in 1849, it is very early. This is remarkably similar to the Quilted Oil registered by Kilner, the bottom and top sections are near identical, it is just the upper body where they differ. Grade: 7 Estimate: $2000 - 2500
