Early curved drawshave with 11.5 inch blade made by A. Mathieson & Son, Glasgow. Nearly 600 mm from handle to handle.. 1880s
Good. A very early tool, this is a drawshave made between 1851 and 1899 by A. Mathieson & Son, Glasgow, possibly the earlier part of that period. Wooden handles look original, they have large splits in them. Metal is solid, it is corroded as well. The blade has not been used for some time, it is blunt and has a little chunk or two from it. A great and early tool. A drawshave is also known as a drawknife, this is a traditional tool used for quickly and easily shaving strips of wood from pieces of timber. Grade: N/A Estimate: $40 - 60
