Goodfellow's / Trade Mark / (Horse Head) / Inter Primos / Ballarat / Ginger Beer. No potters stamp. (Victoria) Demijohn Printed Two tone, tan top, off white body. Black print. Spigot. Handled. 2 Gallon. 390 mm. 1910s
Near Mint. On the left side there is a discoloured surface scratch over about 15 mm. Two small ones near this as well. They do not go into the glaze, the glaze is still shiny at these spots. Dull spot to left rear mid body is a making mark, this rough spot has little glaze and is slightly raised. Spigot is pristine with only a making split where it meets the body. A few small chips and nicks to base edge look to be pottery pulls from making. The handle is spotless as is the lip. The glaze is speckled throughout, heaviest to front and around spigot, giving it a slightly dirty appearance, again, we think this is as per manufacture. A few minor glaze scratches. Some lumps and bumps from manufacture. Great dark stamp on it. What an amazing piece! Made by the Bendigo Pottery (not stamped), they have used the same stamp as used on their ginger beers. This was common practice at Bendigo Pottery with several companies having demijohns made for them using the ginger beer stamp by Bendigo Pottery. This one is a little different as it is a two gallon example! And it has the hole for the tap! Complete with a handle and the nice flared lip, this is a truly unique, superb and great item. Probably worth mentioning that this is the only one known! And, what a beauty it is in stunning condition. Grade: 9.4 Estimate: $15000 - 17500
