Hogben & Co / Grafton. No potters stamp. (New South Wales) Ginger Beer Cork Stoppered Dump shape. Salt Glaze. 10 oz. 168 mm. 1870s
Very Good. At the front base edge is a shallow 9 x 8 mm chip. The front body has a very shallow 6 x 5 mm glaze chip. Through this second mark is a fine hairline which runs from close to the shoulder to the base edge (about 100 mm). Coming off this around the body is another very fine hairline of about 90 mm. The first line actually runs across the base and then in a curved line about 50 mm up the back. All these are extremely fine and quite difficult to follow in places. There is the odd little glaze nick around. A lump of slag on the side of the bottle is from manufacture. A dent at the side base also from making. The impressed stamp has been highlighted with some black ink or similar. This is a very attractive, early and scarce bottle from the Northern Rivers region. Grade: 7.8 Estimate: $$500.00 - $600.00
