Milk Glass Rolling Pin Painted With Design. Glassware Rolling Pin Milk Glass Rolling Pin Painted With Design. 398 mm. 1880s
Very Good. Decorated glass rolling pins were generally given as gifts by sailors to their wives and girlfriends. They were usually colourfully decorated with a sailing ship and words of endearment or a date. One end of the pin always has a small hole in it, the reason for this was to fill the pin with warm water to assist in the rolling of pastry. This has a sticker from the British Antique Dealers Association certifying this as being 100 years old at the time, but the sticker itself has likely been in place for many years (decades!) Glass itself is nice. The end with the hole has a lump on it, this is from making. The artwork is largely missing. Some words can be read, but not enough to make out the real story behind this particular piece. One of several on offer in this auction. Grade: N/A Estimate: $$100.00 - $150.00
