Large Crimean War Jug, Flags on one side in coat of arms and In God We Trust. Cast Iron Bridge over River Wear on other side. Poem to front. Pottery Jug Victorian Sunderland lustre Crimea jug. About 225 mm high. 1860s
Good. An imposing piece, this shows the cast iron bridge over the River Wear built by R. Burdon and opened in 1796. With the Crimea details on the other side, this is a fabulous and important piece. The Crimea side of the jug is really good with just some crazing and a line under the rim which is a little darker. Handle is OK, there is a crack across the lower handle. The bridge side has a hairline along the bottom region. There is a repair to the rim over about 40 x 35 mm that from the inside is obviously where the original piece has been glued back in. It has been painted over externally which is discoloured, peeling this off will make it look much better! Dark hairline under base, this is not long. Great item, could do with a tidy up, but is quite decent as is. Grade: 6.4 Estimate: $$100.00 - $150.00
