Bonnie Prince Charlie Kingsware flask. Potters stamp: (Lion) / (Crown) / Royal Doulton / England / Rd No 618840. Has the original stopper which is quite rare. Spirits Whisky/Whiskey Kingsware Bonnie Prince Charlie Jug. 180 mm. 1910s
Very Good. Lets start with the original corkscrew stopper. This says Dewar's Imperial on both sides with a thistle. This had a bend in it and so the vendor tried to straighten it, poorly! It is now separated! Being a cork, the idea was to pull the stopper out initially and use until empty. Then you would screw the metal part out of the cork thereby giving you a usable corkscrew for any other purposes. A great item in its own right. Now onto the jug. Three glaze pools underneath have some nibbled flakes. This is a result of making, to create the shiny piece a lot of glaze was needed which would run and therefore cause an uneven base. This would then be ground back to make it flat, with the glaze pools subsequently flaking. There is also a 21 x 5 mm inner base flake which may have been caused the same way, or maybe from an impact of some sort? A little glaze flake to Bonnie Prince Charlie. Some scratches to be found. Some crazing. A lovely looking item, with the correct stopper this is a very nice piece all round. Grade: 7.5 Estimate: $100 - 150
