J. P. Yoxall, Wangaratta rubber stamp from Bendigo Pottery. (Victoria) (James A. Lerk Collection) Ginger Beer Stamp Rubber stamp on wooden handle. About 125 mm high. 1900s
Poor. This is the exact item pictured in "Bottles In Australian Collections," by James A. Lerk, 1971 on page 41, item number 9. However, since that photograph was taken this piece has been through a house fire at the James Lerk residence about 20 years ago. It is now charcoal in the wooden parts with wide splits. The rubber part has melted, you can't read Brewed Ginger Beer at the bottom any more. The main part can still be seen enough to know what it once was, but make no mistake, this is poor! However, it is unique, they did not make these in any numbers, quite possibly only one would have ever been made? So, as an example, it is worth thinking about. Just don't put it on a white shelf.
