1. Fair. This is the exact bottle pictured in "Bottles In Australian Collections," by James A. Lerk, 1971 on page 38, bottle number 1. Glaze wear right around lip, this is a dark colour, likely smoke stain from being in the vicinity of the house fire that James Lerk had 20 years ago. Shoulder wear and some body wear is similarly dark where in the photograph in the book it looks light, so smoke stain again. Scratches and wear to the body. Some wear to base edge is not stained. Large lump to rear shoulder looks to be a kiln kiss. Very fine crack around the upper body around about half the circumference to the right. 2. Good. Wear through the glaze around the upper and lower lip. Chips and wear around the base edge. Some body wear, not through the glaze but it is stained. Large dint to the side from making. Some scuffs and scratches. This example does not have the comma after the J. This is also from the James A. Lerk collection, the dark stain may be smoke damage as well. Grade: N/A Estimate: $30 - 40
