Large Apothecary Jar with lid and Insert: Camphor. No base mark. (James A. Lerk Collection) Medicine Chemist Large Apothecary Jar with lid and Insert: Camphor. Body is 205 mm. 1880s
Very Good. The body has crazing throughout. Along the right near the base one looks more like a hairline. The print has flaked off in places. Some scratches. The insert has a small nick to base edge. This is discoloured. The lid is poor, it has been in nine pieces which have roughly been glued back together. This item is part of the James A. Lerk collection, it is pictured within his book, "Bottles in Australian Collections", printed in 1971. It looks much better condition in the book, the print is fine as is the lid. This may have been in the vicinity of the house fire that destroyed much of the Lerk collection 20 years ago. No obvious fire damage, although some of the crazing is stained a bit. The lid is a bit oversized for the jar and only loosely sits in place. Grade: 7 Estimate: $100 - 150
