Sold for A$780

Huxtable & Co / Melbourne. No makers mark. (Victoria) Aerated Water Torpedo Applied chisel top. Green. 13 oz. 218 mm. 1850s

Poor. This was found without a top, there was also a chunk out of the front left neck. A correct style top has been used to repair this to a very high standard, the missing chunk has been filled with coloured resin of some sort to pretty much match the colour of the bottle. A really good job, it does feel a little like plastic in the repair region, but that is irrelevant as it looks great. 5 x 6 mm bruise to lower rear neck, just down from this on the inner surface is a 15 mm angled fracture, this is probably all associated with the bruise occurring through an impact which has caused the inner fracture as well. A few little nicks. Looks to have had a light tumble polish. Shallow burst bubble near front base point. Some scuffs and scratches. One of the most significant of Melbourne's bottles due to the age and colour, as well as the rarity. As far as we can tell, there is only one complete one known. You won't get another chance to add an example to your collection any time soon, even in this condition. Grade: 0 Estimate: $1000 - 1500
