Anthony Thatcher Salad Oil. Base Mark: Pontil. Goldfields Salad Oil Applied top, string lip. Diamond pattern to shoulder. Arched panels. Aqua. 7 oz. 225 mm. 1840s
Excellent. A really early and unusual example, it has a string lip and applied lip ring like the early cognacs do! You don't see that in a salad oil too often, plus the broken pontil to the base. Small nibbled flake to lip edge. Little impact to point of one of the diamonds at the shoulder. Some spots of very light haze in places. A few scratches and minor marks. Small sliver flake to inner base heel, this comes from the pontil and is where the glass blower snapped the rod off in manufacture. Some inner base dirt that will clean out. A couple of little impacts to the base edge. Lots of little bubbles throughout. This has a very light lime colour to it. Just a great and unusual example all round! Grade: 8.1 Estimate: $100 - 150
