Rockingham type glazed pottery dog. Attributed to Lithgow Pottery. Pottery Lithgow Rockingham type glazed pottery dog. Attributed to Lithgow Pottery. 300 mm. 1890s
Excellent. Some grime. Some crazing. Maybe a few fine scratches and marks, but overall this is in wonderful condition. A book entitled The Lithgow Pottery by Ian Evans that was printed in 1981 shows dogs very similar to this on page 103. There are two salt glaze versions shown that were suggested as being made in the 1920s and 1930s, but also mentioned was the fact that dogs in majolica were made in the early 1890s. Lithgow also used Rockingham glaze like this and what has me even more convinced is the base glaze on this being a yellow type colour that looks very much like a Lithgow colour. This does remain, however, an unmarked piece of pottery. Grade: 8.5 Estimate: $250 - 300
