Gawler Wesleyan Church & Sunday School with ornate picture of the church. Cup and saucer. No makers marks. (South Australia) Hotelware Cup and saucer with red rims, black print on white bodies. Cup: 76 mm. Saucer: 158 mm across.. 1870s
The cup is good. Has three glaze flakes to the rim. There are some discoloured hairlines from the rim down, one looks like a fine crack. Discoloured throughout with some darker crazing as well. Saucer is very good. Some discolouration and crazing and some fine scratches from use over the years. A newspaper article printed in April 1869 describes in great detail the new Wesleyan Church at Gawler. The in depth detail in the article matches exactly with the picture shown on this cup and saucer. I feel that these items date to soon after that article, probably in the 1870s. A great and early set of souvenir items from South Australia. Grade: N/A Estimate: $40 - 60
