18th century pewter plate with flowers in vase. Metalware Pewter 18th century pewter plate with flowers in vase. About 290 mm across. 18th century
Good. The vendor informs us this was from a shipwreck overseas that dated to the 18th century. It does appear that plates with this wavy edge were used in the period 1760-1790. This has quality marks with a crown over a flower of some sort, which was a mark of quality in that period as well. Quite a heavy plate, there are knocks and scratches. The design is not distinct, there is a wreath around the outer rim that is very hard to see in places. Having been ocean found, I am tipping this has been heavily polished to bring it back up to this pewter finish, thereby diminishing the detail of the design. Has a hammered effect with lots of lump and bumps. A very interesting piece of history! Grade: N/A Estimate: $100 - 150
