Victorian Child's Polychrome Alphabet Plate: Itinerant Musician.. Pottery. Plate. Polychrome alphabet plate. 162 mm across. 1850s
Good. (6.7). Rather humorous, I am guessing the music would sound somewhat like a squealing pig! The colours were applied crudely after firing on this one, though the red outer line is underglaze. Discoloured throughout. Heavy wear to the inner rim and again to the outer edge of the plate. Some of the embossed letters have heavy wear through the glaze as well. A wonderful depiction, and an early plate, possibly even earlier than suggested.. Estimate: $20-40
