Giant (and I mean giant!) bottle. Embossed on string of glass around neck - A. C. I. V - ASTI (Monogram)........... (Painted Decoration) Knight / Shield with Fleur De Lys, Book, Cross etc. / Dogs / "Thought". Smooth base. (Italy) (Please enquire regarding shipping if you need it) Wine Bulk Giant bulbous wine bottle. Shear lip. Green. Painted decoration. 5 gallon? 670 mm. ?
Excellent. Wear on parts of the painted decoration. Small chips and flakes off the basically shear lip - but bear in mind the lip is about 8 -9 mm in glass thickness so chips are definitely expected! Thin burst bubble near the base. Bit of wear on the base itself. Scratches and scuffs. Embossing on the string rim around the neck looks to be a later font but wear and the like looks old. A bit of an enigma. I assume related to the Asti wine of Northern Italy but seems to predate any DOCG designation. I'd suggest earlier 1900s but in any estimation a quite wonderful piece of glass. Clearly too big for regular post but get in touch if you would like to arrange something! (This is the same item that was offered in Auction 41 with a reserve, this time offered with no reserve). Grade: 8 Estimate: $100 - 200
