Lion Pomade / Prepared by / (Lion) / Jules Hauel / Perfumer, / 120. Chesnut St / Genuine / For Strengthening / the HAIR / Philadelphia. (United States). Pot Lid. Cosmetics. Round pot lid with black print. No base. 75 mm across. 1850s
Very Good. (7.3). 15 x 4 mm flake chip along the bottom of the flange. Couple of smudged areas to the print under the glaze from making. Print is not a pure black, it is a slightly lighter shade of dark grey, again, from making. 18 mm really fine glaze hairline to outer flange. A few little glaze flakes around the outer flange at the bottom. The inner flange has a few extremely shallow flakes, just through the glaze but not much deeper. Some minor scratches and marks. No base. This is a lovely and very early lid which is quite rare and very sought after. Don't confuse this with the Beef Marrow lids from Hauel with the cow trade mark, this Lion Pomade is a LOT rarer and more desirable than those. This is the first we have sold.. Estimate: $1000-1500. Reserve: $900.
