Dickson Bros / Petersburg. No potters stamp. (South Australia). Demijohn. Impressed. Two tone, tan top, off white body. Impressed. Handled. 1 Gallon. 315 mm. 1910s
Very Good. (7.7). One or two little glaze nicks around the outer lip. Couple of really minor sliver type flakes to heel, these are likely from making, regardless, barely noticeable. 30 mm scrape type mark to lower front right is actually a making mark, further making marks above this. Sandpaper type effect to upper right is also from making. Thin discoloured scratch to lower left body. Tiny pin prick blow out to mid front left. Another little blow out to base edge and a couple of others scattered around. Some scratches and minor marks. The main thing to note is the heavy stain throughout, the white body actually has a tan appearance through this stain. If you could clean the stain, you would be left with a superb example! As it is, it remains a great example of an extremely rare South Australian demijohn, possibly unique, much like the small example also in this auction! Advertising from Dickson Bros only ran from 1912-1915, not sure on the full duration of the business.. Estimate: $500-750
