Small Terai Coffee Tin, Doubles as a vesta case with match striker. 61 x 37 mm. 1930s
Very Good. (N/A). Couple of little holes underneath. Some corrosion in places. Some scratches and wear. A bit of discolouration. Interesting sample sized tin that was obviously meant to be used later as a vesta case, this has a match striker underneath as well. Terai Coffee advertised heavily about giveaways such as watches, this would have been just another gimmick. Estimate: $200-300
UPDATE (6/8/2023): This is a rare tin from Western Australia, an article in the Truth newspaper in Perth on December 19th, 1908 states: "'TERAI" TEA. A cup of good tea, when it is good is a beverage second to no other, but it is not always easy to procure a brand capable of giving universal satisfaction at a moderate price. Messrs. G. Wood and Son, the well-known wholesale grocers and importers of Fremantle and Perth, however, have succeeded in placing upon the market the "Terai" tea which meets these requirements. They ha»e just erected new blending and tea mixing machinery at their Fremantle warehouse, so the public can depend on the freshness and reliability of their teas."
