Sharps / 5 / (English Coat of Arms) / Prahran. With a tap. (Victoria). Pottery. Water Filter. Straight sided stoneware water filter. Laid on applied decoration. Brown. 5 Gallon. With a tap. 470 mm. 1870s - 1880s
Very Good. (7.4). There is a crack down from the lip, past the edge of the left handle and to the top of the lower ribbon, about 300 mm in total. On the inside you can see this crack has had glue put in to stabilise it. There have been chips around the rim, mainly the front, that have been filled. They are numerous but doesn't look like anything too deep. Handles are unusual and quite ornate. The right one has some flakes and wear. Couple of firing cracks just above the back base. Bit of red paint on the lower back. Unusual, early and rare Melbourne water filter. Estimate: $500-750
