Goulbourn / Pottery / Street / Hobart // Warranted / Absorb / Not To. (Tasmania). Pottery. Tasmanian. All Tan. Impressed. 145 mm. 145 mm. 1840s-1850s

Very Good. (7.2). Please note that this is much smaller than the last example that we sold which was 182 mm high! 10 x 6 mm flake to front upper right lip. Front upper lip has a 16 x 4 mm very shallow sliver type mark. Rear lip has a short and very fine horseshoe hairline along the upper rim. The rim has wear around it, a couple of minor glaze flakes to inner rim as well. 4 x 5 mm potters blow out to neck has a few short making splits from it. Front and left shoulder has three small flakes, the largest is only 5 x 4 mm and not much deeper than glaze depth. A few other nicks and little spots of wear around the shoulder. Left base edge has a 30 x 10 mm chip. 7 x 4 mm flake to right rear base edge. 3 x 3 mm glaze flake to right base edge. 10 x 7 mm flake under the base, I think this is from making. There are some little glaze flakes around the body, only a handful and these are all very small. 30 mm glaze hairline up from right rear base edge, this joins another hairline that also comes up from base edge over about 80 or 90 mm, it is very hard to see, therefore very hard to measure. To the left of the Warranted badge there is a Y shaped discoloured region, this is actually where there is a really fine hairline as well, where the pottery has absorbed the contents - yes, right next to the badge that says Warranted NOT to absorb! A few other really fine lines scattered around, basically just crazing type marks. This is discoloured as these jars usually are, but looks more of a tan than a yellow colour under the stain. A fabulous piece of very early Tasmanian pottery which is extremely rare. We sold the larger variety in the last auction which is extremely rare as well, I am not sure I have ever seen this small example sell in any auction before! Don't miss this opportunity to add this important piece of Australian pottery to your collection! Estimate: $2000-3000
