Crown Studios Sydney. No makers mark. (New South Wales). Signs. Enamel. Blue and white enamel sign. About 760 x 150 mm. 1910s
Very Good. (N/A). Has a bit of a curve to it across its length which is to be expected when so long and thin, it will still mount flat on a wall though. Has the 6 mounting holes around the perimeter as expected, this also has three across the middle, I think these are original but not 100% sure. Bottom of the T and U of Studios are flaked. Some flakes around the edges and a few of the mounting holes as well, a bit of corrosion amongst these. Some "crazed" marks near the IO of Studios where a minor bend has effected the enamel. Some stains and scratches. Rare sign from the early photography company, not one I have seen before, though I am far from an expert when it comes to signs. The Crown Studios were in George Street, Sydney and were quite a high end establishment in the day in the early 1900s. The studios were destroyed by a fire in 1918, the same fire which destroyed the Roberts' Hotel at the corner of Market and George Street, which had the bottles with the crown and anchor on them! Most interstingly, in 1902, Mark Blow of the Crown Studios, Sydney wrote an article on a new process he had perfected - Color Photography! Estimate: $300-400
