George Lamb / (Lamb) / Thursday Island // Haynes / Patent / Bottle / Rd 27087 / Barnett & Foster / Maker / London. N. No base mark. (Queensland). Aerated Water. Patent. Applied top. Haynes Patent. Aqua. 6 oz. 187 mm. 1880s
Good. (6.8). The inner lip on Haynes Patents has a cross which makes them susceptible to chipping, as is the case here. These are hard to measure due to the irregular nature of the lip, but maybe a 10 x 4 mm shallow chip to front upper lip, similar sliver to the left upper lip, and another similar one to rear upper lip, each associated with one of the indents. Some nibbles and shallow flakes to the outer lip. One of the upper parts of the lip has a slightly ground mark, this is exactly as found decades ago, I wonder if some chipping happened in making that required some minor work? Hazy internally. Wear to inner chamber from the large egg shaped marble. 4 x 4 mm flake to front base edge. To right of this is two more flakes of about 3 x 3 mm and a double flake totalling about 5 x 3 mm. Little fisheyes and impact marks scattered around. Some scuffs and scratches, although nothing too deep. Some high point wear and minor nibbles to the embossing. An extremely important offering, exceptionally rare and sought after bottle, this is the first we have ever sold. Estimate: $5000-7500
