Large Gildea & Walker Staffordshire Punchbowl. (United Kingdom). Pottery. Staffordshire. Transfer decorated pottery bowl with its interior decorated with four drunken Bacchic putti beneath a frieze of other frolicking and drunken Bacchic putti, the similarly decorated exterior raised on a pedestal base with vines and grapes. About 210 mm high. 1881-1885
Good. (6.4). What a magnificent piece! The Gildea & Walker partnership operated out of the original Mayer Dale Hall Works in Longport, Burslem, Stoke-on-Trent, England. This imposing piece has a 125 mm crack down from the rim which is clearly felt in places, not far around from this is another crack of about 90 mm or so also down from the rim, there is a little thin flake on top of the rim where this crack is as well. Scratches to inner base. Crazing throughout. Some dust and grime which will clean off. Truly magnificent item! Note that whilst I think it says Gildea & Walker to base, the first word is very hard to read and it may in fact be Bates & Walker - which would make this a bit earlier as that partnership was at this site between 1875 and 1878. Estimate: $100-200
