M. Wilks / Hobart . Town. (Tasmania). Aerated Water. Torpedo. Applied top. Aqua. 10 oz. 230 mm. 1840s
Repaired. (0). Clear and rough join through the neck about 45 mm down, this has a lumpy ring of yellowing glue around the join. The lip used is the correct style of lip, and still has the original wire and cork in it which is quite unusual. The body is stained. 14 x 4 mm deeply pitted spot of wear to lower rear. 10 x 8 mm mark to lower right rear is part burst bubble, part section of pitted wear. Some other lesser pitted spots and some fisheyes and impact marks to be found. Scuffs and scratches including a few deeper examples. Some crude whittling in places, mainly in a slug plate type appearance around the embossing. An exceedingly rare bottle, there were a few found in Launceston decades ago with the top off like this one, this is likely one of those. There have never been any auctioned in any state that we recall. Well worth buying to improve the repair job to leave a great example. Estimate: $200-300
