Crest of a griffin passant on a wreath above the initials RHC (in script) (on applied seal). Pontil to base. (Attributed to The Hon. Robert Henry Clive (15 January 1789 – 20 January 1854) a British Conservative Party politician). (United Kingdom). Early Glass. Wine. Applied string rim. Applied seal. Tall shape. Black. Pontil. 1 Quart or so. 279 mm. Early 19th century
Excellent. (8). Some inner stain looks like contents residue type staining which should soak out. There are red patches around the bottle including the lip, the seal, the lower body and then a heavy layer under the base, this looks to be some form of paint or coating that would have been over the entire bottle at some stage I am guessing, only just spotty remains of it now except for under the base. Some patches of surface dullness, mainly to the lower front but some other patches to be found. Some scuffs and scratches, a little bit of fine wear around the shoulder. Great example of this early wine bottle bearing this mythical creature. Estimate: $400-600
