David Wills / General Merchant / Borung. No potters stamp. (Victoria). Demijohn. Impressed. Two tone, tan top, off white body. Impressed. 1 Gallon. 300 mm. 1920s

Very Good. (7). David Wills was assigned bankrupt on 18th June, 1937. 6 x 4 mm shallow flake to outer front left lip. 30 x 18 mm chunk out of rear lip immediately above the handle, perfect place for it which makes it not that noticeable, hence I have still graded this in the very good region. Some grime which will clean off. This still has the original handle in place, it has a kiln kiss along one edge of it over about 35 mm. Upper right rear has a making mark of glaze misses. 12 x 7 mm flake under right base edge. Couple of discoloured scratches. Some paint in places which will scrape off, nothing to do with repairs, just streaks where a brush has accidentally scraped past. Fine crazing throughout from manufacture. Minor spot of rust near bottom of handle. Some fine scratches and minor marks. A few really small and minor flakes around the base edge. Overall, a really great example of an extremely rare demijohn, this is the first we have seen! Borung is a very small place near Wedderburn on the Victorian goldfields. Estimate: $500-750
