M. Wilks / Hobart Town. Potters stamp: Stephen Green / Imperial / Potteries / Lambeth. (Tasmania). Ginger Beer. Cork Stoppered. Dump shape. Impressed. All off white. 20 oz. 218 mm. 1850s
Excellent. (8.5). A superb piece, very rare in this large 20 ounce size, this is a significant bottle. Shallow kiln kiss to left lip from making. The shoulder to the left of the stamp has a couple of dints that are glazed over. The right shoulder has a dull patch, there is a small flake, partly glazed over to the left of this dull patch, the right side of the patch has a small 5 x 2 mm shallow flake. Rear lower part of blob top has a really fine surface hairline over a short distance. Surface scratch to left lower body. 4 x 3 mm shallow glaze flake to rear body. A great example, superb condition. Again, this is a very early piece from Tasmania which is very significant in this large size! We sold one of these in Auction 16 way back in 2014, this is that very same example, and so remains the only example that we have handled! Estimate: $4000-5000
