3 / Wm Candy / (Australian Coat of Arms) / Advance Australia / Fitzroy. No potters mark. (Victoria). Household. Water Filter. Salt Glaze waisted water filter, brown with dark brown bands. Applied slab seals. 3 gallon. 420 mm. 1880s
Very Good. (7.1). Flaking around much of the inner lip rim. 20 x 8 mm flake to upper rim above right handle. 7 to 8 flakes around the outer left rim, largest is forward of the left handle, this is about 15 x 10 mm and not deep. Some other wear and minor flakes around the outer lip rim edge. Slab seals, handles and spigot are all in great condition with only a couple of small glaze flakes and spots of wear. A bit of minor wear to the base edge. There are two chips as well, but very small at only 4 x 3 mm and 9 x 5 mm. Right of the trade mark is a very fine, almost undetectable hairline of 40 mm or so. Some scratches and minor marks. Internally you can see four separate spiderweb hairlines which are discoloured, one of these does line up with the 40 mm outer example, but is larger, none of the others can be seen externally. None of these catch your fingernail. Lovely glaze drip right down the front adds to the crude beauty of this piece. The lid has two chunks out of it of about 45 x 10 mm and 75 x 20 mm. A great and highly sought after piece of pottery, quite rare in this waisted salt glaze style, only the second we have sold, and the last one was way back in 2012. Estimate: $500-750
