Day's / Pile Specific / and / Application // An / Infallible / Remedy / For Piles. Smooth recessed base. (Charles Day, 27 Lonsdale Street West, Melbourne, Victoria). Medicine. Cure. Square. Flared lip. Clear. 1 oz. 65 mm. 1860s
Very Good. (7.5). This is an extremely rare and early Melbourne bottle! A newspaper advertisement from 1867 states: "Piles! Piles! Day's Pile Specific and Application. An Infallible remedy. The above will be found a certain cure for this distressing Complaint, it having never been known to fail. Prepared only by Charles Day, Chemist and Druggist, 27 Lonsdale Street West Melbourne" This example is hazy with milky internal stain. Swirls around the outside are from making, across the lower front right corner is a divot type mark that continues around as surface swirls which is definitely the way it was made. A few scratches and the odd fine scuff mark. Extremely rare, we did sell another example in Auction 54, but this example is different without a pontil and a different lip finish. Estimate: $300-400
