Murray & Meade / (M & M in a Diamond) / Albury. N. S. W. // 5 impressed in upper back. (New South Wales). Demijohn. Barrel. Banded barrel. Majolica. Internal thread top. 5 Gallon. 480 mm. 1890s - 1900s
Very Good. (7.9). The raised part of the tap hole at the back has been rebuilt. Overpainting here just goes a few mm into the majolica on one side. Some minor shallow chipping to the edge of the threaded hole at the top but obviously with the correctly fitting stopper in place this is out of sight. A very well repaired chip on top of the rim at the left side. Covers about 45 x 12 mm but colours are a great match, looks to be only a shallow chip. Has been some little chips on the applied letters that have been rebuilt, most notable are middle of the M of Murray, edge of the A of Murray and the bottom of the last E in Meade. Also the top edge of this banner has had some similar work done on a thin chip. A few very minor spots elsewhere. Coming from the right edge of the tap hole is a fine hairline that runs under the base for about 95 mm. Some light scratches and wear around. A wonderful item, in the overall context the issues mentioned above are only minor. Rare and spectacular. Make a great centrepiece for any collection. Estimate: $5000-10000
