Amazing set of apothecary cabinet gilded glass labels! . Medicine. Chemist. Amazing set of apothecary cabinet gilded glass labels! These would have been at the front of each drawer to indicate what was within each drawer. 14 are around 140 x 34 mm, 4 are around 180 x 40 mm. Mid 19th century
N/A. (N/A). Extremely impressive and early set of apothecary drawer glass labels, possibly 1840s or soon after. Starting with the small ones, we have C: Cinchon: in pretty good condition, flake to the paint on the first C, some other flakes to the edges and some grime across the glass. Next is B: Junip: which has the B paint totally flaked off, some flaking to the U and P as well. Also has some grime. C: Cascar: is next, Some minor flakeing to the end letter or two, only small spots, this also is grimy. Little paint flake or two to edges. Next is Cetaceum. UM is flaked, flake to middle upper edge to both the paint and glass in the instance. Some other paint wear to edges and some grime. On to G: Tragac:, this has a flaked R & A and a fair bit of paint flaking along the upper edge. Also grimy. R: Gentian: has a flaked R, some paint flakes to upper corners and some grime. C: Aurant: has a flaked C and N, a little flaking along paint on upper edge and grime. F: Sennae. has small flakes to the S and combined AE. Some minor grime. Full: Earth. has paint flaking to the ULL. Some minor marks to the edges and some grime. F: Buchu. has a flaked F and some paint flaking along the edges. Also a bit grimy. Manna. has flaking to four of the five letters and some minor paint flakes to a couple of the corners, also grimy. Aloes. S: has flaking to an S, some wear through the paint to the left end and a small section at the top. Some grime too. G: Kino. has a longer section of flaking to the bottom edge and a small flake or two to the top, the writing is unmarked though. Some grime. Pot: Nitr: has pretty extensive flaking to four of the letters and along the bottom edge, just minor marks elsewhere and some grime. The four larger ones are Mag: Sulph: which has flaking to the first three letters and a minor spot or two of wear to others. Bottom left corner has a larger area of paint flaking. Chip to the glass at the left end. Heavily grimy. P: Amyli. has a small flake to the P and L, there is a little nick to the Y as well. A little flaking to the paint around the left end corners. Some grime. Isinglass. has paint wear and flaking along the bottom edge, a smaller thinner section at the top edge, but the writing is not flaked. Grimy. Sulph: Sub: has smaller flakes to five of the letters. Some minor flakes to the edges. Grimy. What a great set of early apothecary cabinet glass labels. Estimate: $200-400
