LXI // Reliance Patent / 4 / Sole Makers / Dan Rylands Ld / Barnsley. Trade Mark / Rd around lugs on each side of neck. (United Kingdom). Aerated Water. Patent. Applied top. Reliance Patent. Hybrid. Aqua. 20 oz? 265 mm. 1880s

Very Good. (7.5). 3 x 3 mm nibbled impact to upper rear lip. 3 x 1 mm impact to outer lip edge. One or two other tiny nicks. Bit of a hazy look internally, however a fair bit of this looks to be dirt whch may well wash out. 4 x 1 mm nibbled surface mark above one of the lugs. 8 x 3 mm shallow burst bubble on the LXI side. Little mark next to the L is a making mark, a little lump on the surface. Scuffs and scratches to be found, but nothing too deep. Just a little surface wear in places. A few little surface nicks. What a bottle! A reliance patent hybrid for starters is a rarity, but what about the size! This thing is huge, I am guessing 20 oz, though could be 16 oz, I haven't measured the contents capacity so use the 265 mm as a guide. LXI is Roman numerals for 61, we believe this was made for the 61st regiment of a military! BUT, which military? Whilst several milataries around the World had a 61st regiment, the only one I can find that aligns date wise is the 61st (South Gloucestershire) Regiment of Foot: An infantry regiment of the British Army raised in 1758, apparently they saw extensive action during the Napoleonic Wars before amalgamating into the Gloucestershire Regiment in 1881. Estimate: $750-1000
