Sold for A$2,000

"The Melbourne" / Cherry Tooth Paste / Bowen & Co, / 336, Collins Street & 53 & 55, Swanston Street, / Melbourne. Pot lid Tooth Paste Rectangle pot lid, black print on white lid. Not listed with this address in "Collecting Australian Pot Lids, Keil." 94 mm x 61 mm. 1890s

Excellent. Couple of minor scuffs and scratches to the glaze. A few very light spots of discolouration. A pinprick to the glaze between the H and E of THE. A couple of lumps on the surface as well, these are all from manufacture. Fine scuff mark to the bottom flange. Around the bottom edge where the lid meets the base there are some nibbles, these are all very minor, in fact in one spot the glaze goes over one or two, so is probably also from the making process. Lid does have some light crazing. We believe that this is the rarest of the rectangle Bowen lids with the three addresses on it. This lid comes with a base printed Maw, London underneath. The base has a chip to outer edge, small flake to top and some crazing. Grading is for lid only. Grade: 8.7 Estimate: $1500 - 2000
