Thistle Whisky. LION to rear shoulder! Base Mark:(Dot). (United Kingdom) (Late Kingsley Durdin Collection). Goldfields. Whisky/Whiskey. Applied top. Hugely embossed thistles and vines. Oval label space to rear. LION to rear shoulder! Aqua. 26 oz. 287 mm. 1850s-1860s
Near Mint. (9.4). Tiny nibbled marl to front lip edge. A little grime amongst the heavily embossed design which should soak out. Some surface splits from making to inner base. Extremely heavy embossing has next to no marks! Long bubble to inner right shoulder may be at the surface, as made. A few inclusions with no associated damage. Some fine usage wear to the heel. Maybe a fine scratch or two. Stunning example of a worlwdie classic and exceedingly sought after bottle. However, please note that these come in three varieties, usually JD on rear shoulder (there is an example of these later in this auction!), another with a blank panel on rear shoulder which is quite rare, and this one with a lion on it! I have never seen another! One of the pride and joys of the late Kingsley Durdin, this is from his collection! Estimate: $5000-7500
